Clinician Scientific and Educational Resources

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that causes patients to have recurrent seizures. Cannabidiol is a plant-derived or synthetically produced derivative of the Cannabis sativa plant, which unlike the other major Cannabis sativa metabolite—tetrahydrocannabinol—does not have psychoactive effects. A pure form of cannabidiol is approved for patients with select epileptic disorders, and while there are also over-the-counter cannabidiols available, these are neither regulated nor approved for medical use. As a result there is growing interest among clinicians and patients in the therapeutic potential of cannabidiol for managing seizure disorders.

Staying current with the latest information on epilepsy, its treatments, and the potential role for cannabidiol is essential to help maintain low seizure activity in, and best outcomes for, patients with epilepsy.

On this site we invite you to explore more about epilepsy pathophysiology and assessment, as well as treatment strategies involving cannabidiol. We have also provided patient support strategies and additional reading and resources to further your knowledge of epilepsy and cannabidiol. We invite you to explore our high-definition animations, apps, and other tools to enhance your knowledge of this exciting area.
